THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

Image

Twas the day after Christmas

And all through the house

All I could hear

Was the click of a mouse.

The keyboards were active

As the messages flew,

To far away places,

boasting of all that was new.

Santa was good

to all far and near.

Hardly was seen

A new fallen tear.

In fact it was difficult

to see even one eye,

They all stared at screens

Until all the eyeballs went dry.

Cell phones  and nooks,

Kindles and note books,

Computers and ipods,

Don’t forget the androids.

If you don’t have one,

I can see why you moan,

with everyone’s head down,

You feel all alone.

Please don’t despair,

All is not lost,

You can still buy a paper,

Or a book at low cost.

THERE MUST HAVE BEEN MONEY IN THESE SMALL TOWNS AT ONE TIME———!

THERE MUST HAVE BEEN MONEY IN THESE SMALL TOWNS AT ONE TIME———!

As I drive around this rural Upstate New York area, I notice some incongruent sights that caused me to wonder, “How Come?” in the small towns, which used to be farm towns. They are still small and the dairy business and the vegetable business still makes the economy what it is in this area. The small business contractor is usually easy to find in a small town because there are many of them. The old buildings are in need of repair after being there for a couple of hundred years.

These old buildings are what draw my attention. They are huge and very ornate with gingerbread decoration and fancy bracing. Most of them have large bay windows and some have towers as well as the widow walk room at the very top. That addition to the building was there so the owner could easily keep an eye on his farm employees or the sea captain’s wife could see his ship as it left or returned from a long journey in the case of small coastal towns. What great fortunes were made that enabled the ancestors to build these homes?

The same thing can be asked about churches. The further back in time you go, the larger and more ornate the churches and temples become.

I guess money shows where the power is. Nowadays, the only people building churches, the small pole barn type building  for a hundred faithful, are the small groups of Evangelicals in the small towns. Lately, they have shown power in the Tea Party faction in the Republican party. That group is funded by wealthy Conservatives from the South.

It seems that at this point in our history the richest group gets richer, the middle class shrinks and the lower class grows. How did/does happen?

IF YOU LIVED IN RURAL UPSTATE NEW YORKYOU MAY HAVE——!

Hit a deer with your car or had a deer hit you. I HAVE MADE CONTACT WITH THESE Bambis on several occasions and usually they were not serious enough to make contact with those wonderful insurance

companies. The first one ran in front of me close enough to dare me to hit her. I hit a hind foot and ended up with mud on my bumper. No deer damage and no car damage. Then a small one ran into my front fender and again, no serious car damage but the poor deer——!

Then ,I had one jump in the road after dark and my rear view mirror hit her in the head. Not the rear view in the car, the one out side on the door. I am sure she had a sore nose but nothing beyond that. No car damage. Finally, the ‘BIG ONE’!  A great racked six or eight pointer with does on his mind charged in front of me and after contact flew over the left side of my windshield and left hair and fecal matter on the side of my Lumina van. Sadly, he didn’t survive and I had $1600.00 of damage to fix.

Politically this type of situation is two sided as usual. Or three or four sided. The insurance companies want the hunters to get rid of as many as possible. Fewer deer, fewer claims as you would expect. The hunters agree with a larger limit on bags allowed.

The government wants to regulate the limits and does. The problem here is that the animal rights people want more and more deer and fight or lobby against increases in the take per individual hunter. The insurance companies lobby against the PETA people and as usual, the politician goes wher the money is, to heck with using character and common sese to decide Right now the Insuarance and hunter groups are winning and bag limits have gone up.

One thing is certain to me and my observations. THERE ARE TOO MANY DEER. Two people have been killed by cars knocking deer into other vehicles.

I don’t have exact numbers but in the past few years about two hundred thousand deer have been taken by hunters n NTS and about the same number have been killed by cars.

WHO SHOULD GET THE MONEY?

WHO SHOULD GET THE MONEY?

We American’s, regardless of what the Fox talking heads and the right wing conservatives say, are hardworking, productive people. The way we fed and supplied the world during and after World War Two proves that. The free countries of the world developed and grew at an amazing speed as technology developed. The reason for this is that a great amount of property and infrastructure had been destroyed and needed repair. The people had done without the nice things as the need for war material grew., therefore they were ready to buy, buy, buy.

We became the hardest working most productive work force in the world. Unions grew and we became accustomed to a good life as home owners, the two car garage became a symbol of affluence and all was well.

And then, the leaders got greedy. Union busting became a way of lowering wages, outsourcing became the rule for achieving lower costs by finding cheap labor over seas,  and cutting the health care benefits and other fringe “labor costs” became an annual bargaining chip for union management consideration.

Money and riches flowed at a faster rate than ever to the “MAN” who had usurped the fruit of the labor of the “low class” members of society. The rich got richer and the poor got poorer and the middle clas got smaller and smaller.

As I see it the most blatant cause of this trend has been the oil companies of the world. The most egregious example of this were the Bush/Chaney years. I told my wife when they were elected to watch the gas prices rise now. They went from $2.– something to the present $3.63 per gallon today in NY State. Prices of everything have skyrocketed and employment has suffered. The only people who are happy are the well invested in the stock Market. Something smells bad in the USA!

AFTER THE SECOND BOOK—-

AFTER THE SECOND BOOK—

AFTER THE SECOND BOOK—-
After you write your first book, good or bad, you surprise friends who never thought you were capable of such a chore. When you self edit, self publish, and actually sell a few books, people start to believe that anything is possible. The next step is to write a second book, self edit it and self publish it. When you do this people start to ask what will you write net and when will it be ready. By this time you start to feel like an author, even if you didn’t follow the more difficult path of the traditional author of old. Write, try to get published, hire an agent, try to get published and get told that your particular genre is not in vogue.

I am in my second publishing and have surprised myself with the amount of interest in the process of self publishing. Several people have started writing as a result of my limited success and that was one of the reasons that I undertook this action. My daughter, a more accomplished author than I and My grand daughter as well are writing and the former has a working novel being published at this time. Have I been an inspiration , or what?!

Short and sweet today.
